I took some careful measurements of both stock and Dynojet needles and came up with this:
The differences between the two needles can be more easily explaned by measurement errors than actual differences.
You'll notice that if you put a 0.5mm shim under the stock needle's E-clip it'll be exactly like the Dynojet's needle in the 3rd position from the top.
It turns out that the 3rd position from the top is where Dynojet says you should put the E-clip for most setups.
0.5mm washers can be had at an electronics store for short money. Jets are cheap, like $4 each, so you can swap out the main jets for $8.
Dynojet also supplies a drill bit to drill out the smaller of the two holes in the bottom of the slides. That drill bit is a #54 drill bit. it can be had for short money too, but don't look for it at Sears or Home Despot. It's a machinist's thing. A #54 drill is 0.0550" or 1.397mm. That drill bit should cost about $2. You can get one from mcmaster.com for $0.90, but you'll pay a lot in shipping.
I'm not an expert, so the rest of the jetting is up to you. Do a google search on "sv650 cheap jetting" and you'll get a bunch of hits with specific instructions.
Although I had success with my Dynojet kit, I prefer the Factory Pro brand kits. The Dynojet kits require drilling a hole in the slide, which ... well, can't be undone. Factory doesn't need that. Different slide springs, different needle design, different jet specs... I dunno, but given the choice I'd prefer being able to back out if necessary. If you're going to spend money on a kit, get the Factory one.
